I grew up in a family of artist, and because of this, I have always had an appreciation for the beauty and inspiration around us. I consider the human body on of the greatest of these.
For this piece, I began with a live charcoal sketch of my model and began shading and finalizing lines and shapes. I then used gesso to manipulate and add depth to my figure, using broad strokes and sharp angles to give a raw feeling overall.
These two drawings were required to be drawn with the non-dominant hand. While it was very challenging, I was able to contemplate the proper most useful way of drawing through tension, and positioning.
We are mentally trained to identify faces and figures and I believe that the mental connection we make is because of the desire we have to connect with people around us.
