This project was to create an Icon using a conceptual verb, emotion, or idea. I chose the word Drown. Through my research, I learned that dreams involving drowning can relay apprehension or fear of death or well-being.
For my icon, I wanted to express the meaning of the word, while also keeping my overall aesthetic similar to tribal symbols. I wanted to chose simple shapes overall, and detailed my icon with color and texture. I experimented with unique textures similar to the patterns created in a class mark-making exercise, to portray the organic tactile of water and the lungs. I also played with using geometric shapes and multiple color pallets. In one, I used a blue to peach gradient to express the idea of life leaving the lungs, leaving only dark water. Overall, I combined the unique textures with the organic design to capture the feeling of fragile life.
